For many organisations, the move toward QCTO-aligned training can initially feel unfamiliar. New terminology, different compliance processes, and updated qualification structures often create the perception that implementation will be difficult or overly administrative.
In reality, QCTO training is not necessarily more complicated than traditional training models - it simply requires an understanding of a different framework and process. Once employers and training providers understand how the qualification is structured across knowledge, practical, and workplace experience components, implementation becomes far more straightforward.
Much of the resistance around QCTO training comes from change itself. Businesses that are accustomed to previous SETA processes may need time to adjust, but with the right guidance and support structures in place, the transition can be smooth and highly effective.
Our years of experience working with QCTO qualifications have enabled us to build streamlined systems and support processes that simplify implementation for our clients.
What is discussed in this video?
QCTO training is not complicated or hard to implement at all.
When I started Leverage and initially applied for the first two qualifications myself — before the business grew to where it is today — I actually found it quite easy to understand the knowledge, practical, and workplace components of the qualifications.
Once you understand how to unpack the qualification and understand the rules, mandates, and quality requirements from the QCTO, it becomes very manageable.
At the end of the day, you are still delivering training much like any other qualification. I do not think it is difficult to implement at all.
From Leverage’s side, we are now very experienced with these qualifications. We have been working with them for the last five years, so our support structures and processes are highly refined and operate very seamlessly.
So it’s not really complicated, it is simply learning a new process.
There can be resistance because it differs from older systems and processes, such as the way qualifications were previously loaded through SETAs. But ultimately, it is just about adapting to change and becoming familiar with a new way of doing things.
Key Takeaways for Businesses
QCTO training is not inherently difficult to implement. The main challenge for many organisations is adapting to a new process and understanding how occupational qualifications are structured across theory, practical learning, and workplace experience.
With the right training provider and support systems, implementation can become streamlined and highly effective. Businesses that embrace the transition often discover that QCTO qualifications create stronger alignment between training, workplace application, and operational outcomes.
Rather than viewing QCTO implementation as a compliance burden, organisations can approach it as an opportunity to modernise their workforce development strategy and create more practical, industry-relevant learning experiences.
